Stop Insuring Fossil Fuels
The project of the Development Foundation Yes. Open-pit mines no, this time focuses on the international aspect of counteracting the extraction of fossil fuels. As part of the project, our goal is to raise awareness and build grassroots social movements against the insurance and reinsurance of fossil fuels by the largest insurers and reinsurers in the world.
Our primary goal is to withdraw from the insecurity of the fossil fuel sector, including with particular emphasis on coal, by motivating grassroots social movements, condemning to good practices in the area of obtaining information from general meetings of insurance sector institutions, as well as contacting and coordinating these organizations in a wider the context of international non-governmental organizations from the climate sector.
Areas of operation
Our area of operation is mainly non-governmental organizations, activists, experts and the media from the Balkans and Turkey, with particular emphasis on activities in countries such as: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Turkey, Macedonia.
We carry out our activities in the above-mentioned countries in many aspects. Firstly, through on-site seminars and training, thanks to which we present the complexity of fossil fuels and their impact on the natural environment, but also to indicate the key role of the insurance sector without which mining, for example, of coal, could not take place. Thanks to such seminars, we try to visualize how we can counteract the global degradation of the natural environment and how we can eliminate opencasts and create social pressure on public institutions and the mining sector.
Another area is gaining knowledge about the activities of insurers through the active participation of our volunteers, associates and partners in the assembled general institutions from the fossil fuel sector. It is thanks to the general meetings of insurance institutions that we are able to determine their attitude to the changing world and the next steps in the area of mining insurance. It is also here that we can ask questions - often inconvenient for these institutions - thanks to which the public is able to make a decision on its own whether it wants to continue to participate in the procedure of environmental degradation by supporting these companies.
The last aspect is media coverage, both through social media, contact with local media in the countries covered by the project, and media networks of our partners. Thanks to our extensive activities, we are able to quickly and effectively inform local communities and the wider world about the real dangers of fossil fuel insurance.
Our priority is to ensure clean mining, free from environmentally destructive, and to spread awareness of the value of good, which is our environment, with particular emphasis on the young generation of Europeans.
